Long-Term Safety
100 Years of Monitoring
Living near a decommissioned nuclear site in Canada is safe. The site undergoes a rigorous decommissioning process to ensure that any remaining radioactive materials are removed and that the site remains safe for the public.
In Canada, this process is overseen by the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC), which ensures that strict safety protocols are followed.
Once site restoration is complete, regular environmental monitoring will be conducted to ensure that there are no abnormal radiation levels or other potential risks to the public. This monitoring will continue for at least 100 years.
